Born in 2011 when Bitcoin mining required scary console miners like poclbm, Phoenix and DiabloMiner, GUIMiner wrapped them all in one clean window. No flags, no .bat files, no headaches.

Today guiminer.org keeps that spirit alive: a lightweight, portable Windows app that lets you point your CPU, OpenCL GPU or CUDA GPU at any Stratum pool, track hashrate in real time, and manage multiple workers and GPUs from tabs. Ideal for learning, testing, retro mining, and small home farms. For ASICs we explain how to use GUIMiner as monitor + controller.

03 — Setup in 2 minutes

From zero to first share in 4 steps.

01Create wallet + pool account.
Get BTC address, register on any Stratum pool, create worker: e.g. satoshi.1 with password x.

02Open GUIMiner, add server.
File → New Miner → choose OpenCL for AMD, CUDA for NVIDIA, CPU for test. Paste stratum host + port.

03Tune flags.
Start with -v -w128 for AMD, -f60 for smooth desktop. Enable CPU affinity if you game while mining.

04Press Start Mining.
Watch console: “Connected”, “Share accepted”. First payout after pool threshold.

Fees, safety, laptop mining, pools, solo vs pool — answered honestly.

Is GUIMiner free? Any hidden fee? +

100% free, no dev fee in the GUI itself. Pools take 1-2.5% PPLNS/FPPS fee — that's not ours. Beware clones asking for 5%+.

Can I mine Bitcoin on laptop / without GPU? +

Technically yes on CPU tab, but you'll earn dust (cents per year on mainnet). Use CPU for testnet learning, or mine Litecoin/Doge Scrypt and convert.

Which pool to choose in 2026? +

For beginners: large FPPS pools with low payout threshold (0.0005 BTC) and dashboard in your language. For decentralization fans: Ocean, Slush. Always enable failover pool in GUIMiner.

Antivirus flags miner as virus. Is it safe? +

Miners use the same hooks as malware, so false positives are normal. Verify SHA256, add folder exclusion, download only from this domain. Never run cracked “overclocked” builds.

Solo vs pool mining? +

Solo = lottery (6.25 BTC if you find block, almost never on GPU). Pool = steady small payouts proportional to shares. GUIMiner supports both: use localhost:8332 for solo node.

My hashrate is 0 / rejected shares? +

Check: 1) worker name format user.worker, 2) stratum port (not http), 3) GPU drivers + OpenCL SDK, 4) lower aggression / -f 60, 5) firewall. Console color red = auth error.
